Carnival is here!
- What? Barcelona Carnival
- When? 20 to 26 February 2020
- Where? Barcelona, in every neighbourhood
Barcelona celebrates Carnival too. It is a deeply rooted festival enjoyed by everyone, but above all by children, who love dressing up and parading around to show off their costumes.
The city’s main events take place on Dijous Gras (Fat Thursday), which this year falls on 20 February. The day is celebrated by eating eggs in all their forms, most commonly omelettes, coca de llardons (pork crackling flatbread) and egg sausage. In the afternoon the Carnival celebrations begin with l’Arribo: the arrival of King Carnestoltes and his entourage, symbolising the city’s seven historic villages: Horta, Sant Andreu, Sarrià, Gràcia, Sants, Les Corts and Sant Martí.

Parades will be held in every Barcelona neighbourhood throughout the weekend, most of them on Saturday 22, as Carnival in Barcelona is above all a neighbourhood celebration with a very local flavour.
