Sant Antoni and Els Tres Tombs
- What? Els Tres Tombs and the Sant Antoni festival
- When? Several weekends in January 2020
- Where? Various Barcelona districts (Gràcia, Sant Antoni and Sant Andreu)
Just a few days after the Christmas holidays end, Sant Antoni arrives. It is celebrated in different Barcelona neighbourhoods one after another, giving us two more weeks of festivities.
Els Tres Tombs in Sant Andreu
The Tres Tombs festival begins in Sant Andreu, a neighbourhood a little way from the centre but well worth a visit. It is also home to Fabra&Coats, a former factory turned cultural centre that often hosts activities. The Tres Tombs festival coincides with the feast of Sant Antoni, patron saint of animals, and features a parade of great horses pulling old carriages and floats. Participants throw lots of sweets for the children, and at the end there is a blessing where anyone who wishes can bring their pets to be blessed. The night before, you can see Els Tres Tombs Infernals, a show about the life and work of Sant Antoni that combines theatre, music and fireworks.

Sant Antoni Festival
The second weekend is the Sant Antoni neighbourhood festival, with lots of traditional activities such as sardana dancing and street processions… In El Clot they celebrate La Porkada, a more recent event: a food festival with pork as the star, which ends with a correfoc (fire run).

The third weekend moves between Gràcia, much closer to our hotel, and Sant Antoni again. In Gràcia you can enjoy a Majorcan festival that fills the streets with Majorcan produce, folk music, puppets, ball de bot dancing, glosades (improvised verse) and fire. And in Sant Antoni you can see the Sant Antoni parade once more.
